Another cold day, so it the idea of staying in and playing with Photoshop sounded pretty good. Wanting to apply to a competition, “Same but Different” I needed to figure out how to make a diptych in Photoshop. Now, I can show the original glass world and the photos that come from it. Above right is the eight inch disk and on the left is Folds at the Edge of the Sun, which you can just make out at the very bottom of the disk. This world has a lot more to it, so I will have to make a few more combo pieces. Now, on to some more same but different pieces.
Having fun making new glass worlds and finding some interesting images. Since it takes a good amount of time to do the kiln work, I hadn’t had much of a chance to do this lately. Feels good to be back in the studio.
With the start of the holiday season I have decided to daily promotions through December. These may be a percent off deal in my Etsy shop, a free item with purchase, or, like today, a donation of a certain amount of my sales to a cause of my choice. You can “like” my Facebook (Ladybug Glass Studio) page to get daily updates, or check back here. To start the month off I am donating 10% of my Etsy shop sales from 1 PM Tuesday Dec. 1 through 1 PM Wednesday, Dec. 2 (Central Time Zone) to White Paws German Shepherd Rescue, a group we were lucky enough to find and adopt our 2 dogs through.
As I said before, I don’t sew. Ask me to cut out and put some glass pieces together, no problem. Ask me to cut fabric and sew it together, big problem. Oh, I can do the occasional hem, repair a split seam and the like, but actually making something gets me crazy. showing off this fabric I have been designing leads to the obvious question “so what are you going to do with it?”. Luckily, my Mother still enjoys seeing and is game for a new project while waiting out winter. So we got together and I cut and pinned, she sewed and we made some scarves. I have been wearing them and getting good response. Today I decided to try my hand at sewing one myself – maybe after all these years things have changed. Nope. Well, I did set myself up for a challenge by using knit fabric, nothing like adding an extra layer of difficulty. A nice infinity scarf is now around my neck, but I don’t want anyone to look too closely. I have a lot of respect for those who sew with knits, and even more for my Mom who made me a bathing suit years ago. I will be going back to my other idea of making bags and clutch purses out of woven fabrics. Maybe with practice on some easier things I will improve. Or, I will find people who do sew…..
