The evolution of a project in glass and photography

About

Worlds are still being created and new things found.  Lately, I have been working in Photoshop to create mirror image photos, often pulling out the most interesting features to highlight.  Check out my Portfolio of images to see what has been found.

As a glass artist I am always trying something new, and sometimes it leads to something exciting.  Lately, I have been making what is known in the glass field as pot or mesh melts. Somewhat descriptive, but still sort of vague. What happens is I pile glass (different colors and sizes) in a ceramic dish that has holes in the bottom, or place it on a steel mesh, then melt it at high temperatures in my kilns. As the glass melts it flows onto a kiln shelf creating interesting and colorful patterns. After making a few of these I decided to take some pictures of the patterns in bright light which really brought out the colors and patterns. Then I did some macro (close-up) photos and things started to get really interesting. Each melt seems to contain all kinds of portals to different levels, flowing images, and even some never before seen creatures, thus they became worlds within the glass. As I keep creating glass worlds, a universe is forming.

Many of the portions of glass in the photos are as tiny as 1/4 by 3/8 inch in size, with detail that is not seen with the naked eye. The magnification of my macro lens, plus enlargement of the photographic images makes the worlds come to life. With this blog I invite you to come along on my journey through this universe in glass.

    Hi Kimberly,
We met at the Art Night at the Spring Hill Suites a week ago. I would like to write about your artwork for the next issue of Frankly Green Bay. When would you like to meet? I could do an interview over the phone but it’s easier in person. I’m usually free after 5pm or some Saturdays.
